Al Badia Golf Club by InterContinental Dubai Festival City hosted the Travel Golf Cup. The event was sponsored by Destinations of the World and saw a field of 60 players compete in a Texas Scramble tournament.
It was a beautiful day at Al Badia Golf Club, with the course in outstanding condition, making the game a great test of golf.
The day’s play gave way to a series of extremely close scores, with the team of Chris Turlik, Michael Sim, Michael Traceyand Kohli holding firmly on to first place with an outstanding net score of .1. The format of the competition was 10% of each teams’ combined handicap, so the winning team had to shoot a low score as they only had a combined handicap of 2.9. With a front nine of 30 (-6) the overall winners certainly set the pace, playing the holes 6 to 9 in 5 under including 3 birdies and 1 eagle. Their fantastic round ensued on the back nine with a score of 31 (-5) to finishing with gross 61.
The second place went to the team of Ara Nakhnikian, Colin Smith, George Horanand Tarrotonly just missed out on 1stplace with a score of 58.7. The team had a great start with a front 9 of 33, but it was the inward nine that was more impressive with a run of 4 back to back birdies and an eagle on the 18thhole, giving the team a gross of 63.
The third place trophy was won by Andy Robinson, Paul Marriot, Anna Zhukovand Barlow. The team had a net score of 59.1 with two solid 9’s of 33 giving them a gross score of 66. It was a great performance from the 3rdplace team, one of the few teams not to have a bogey on the card all day.
The special events winners did not let themselves be outshone, with Rabih Sfeila grasping the nearest to the pin prize on the 11thhole, and Andy Robinson wining the longest drive competition on the 13thhole.
This great day concluded with a magnificent feast at The Lawn, set amongst the luscious greenery of the 9thhole and the stunning clubhouse elegantly standing on the background. Anna Zhukov from Destinations of the World thanked all the participants and the Al Badia Golf Club for taking part in shaping the success of this golf event and sees a great future in building an outstanding relationship and business connections with all the participants. Al Badia Golf Club’s Club Manager, James Shippey presented the winners of the day with the Managing Director of Destinations of the World, Keith Fernandes presenting the overall winners’ trophies. The winning team was delighted to be a part of this prestigious golf event, and was grateful to the organizers and the Club for making the day so enjoyable for them.
