After 20 years of trying Steve Higson and his latest partner Claire Warburton finally ended his drought by claiming the 32nd edition of the Sharjah Wanderers Golf Club Mixed Open title for the first time recently.
In what is one of the longest running golf tournaments within the U.A.E. participants arrived from Qatar, Cyprus and the U.K. to join local golfers in vying for this converted title supported by International Inspection Services Ltd.
At the completion of play on Day One of the competition Warburton and Higson trailed Kay Dymock and Tim Craig by one shot, after the latter scored a magnificent net 63 around the sand links of Sharjah.
After the front nine holes had been played on Day Two, Dymock and Craig had furthered their lead to two shots, however by the twelfth hole the lead had been reversed with Warburton and Higson leading by two, this pattern continued to the end with Warburton needing to hold her nerve and make a eight foot putt to draw the scores level after 36 holes of great golf and win the title via the count back system having had the better score in the final round.
At the presentation Higson offered his sincere thanks to Roger Kay from Inspec for their excellent support for the event and acknowledged that Claire had achieved something none of his previous partners had managed assisting him in his long quest for success in the event.
