The second round of the Dubai Golf Summer Series was played today at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club. The series consists of four fixtures played between the local clubs in the Dubai Golf portfolio; Dubai Creek and Emirates.  The ever popular event has proved to be a great success once again with a more than 140 players having competed in the opening two rounds.

A drop in humidity and an afternoon breeze made for almost perfect playing conditions. Taking advantage of this, and the full course handicap allowance, was Emirates and Creek member Alex Wonyop Kim.  Mr Kim made a superb 43 stableford points to take 1st place by just one point over EGF member Rattan Sehra.  After being presented his prize Kim commented; “I feel comfortable every time I play here at the Creek, even on the notorious 17th and 18th holes.  It’s a truly stunning course and always a pleasure to play.  My playing partners were excellent and I feel they played a big part in my unexpected victory.  I look forward to the upcoming fixtures and hope that I can continue to play well”.

Picking up the prize for third spot was Stephen Fidler who made a very respectable 40 points after scoring a gross 73.  However, this was not enough to win the gross category as UAE National Team member Ahmed Al Musharrekh scored a 72 on the day giving him 35 gross points to Fidler’s 34.  In the ladies division it was the Dubai Creek ladies Vice-Captain Maureen Platt who got back to winning ways securing 1st place with a solid 36 points.

Mike Robson was the only double winner after lovely iron shots on holes 8 and 14 won him both the nearest the pin prizes.  Finally, it was a day to remember for Martin Uchytil who scored a wonderful hole-in-one on the short fifth.

After conducting the prize presentation Dubai Creek’s Head Golf Professional Stephen Hubner commented; “It has been lovely to welcome so many players from around the country to Dubai Creek to join our own members in this event.  It seems to be growing every year and so a big thank-you to Prosports International for once again supporting.  The third fixture in the series will be a night golf game on Friday 10th August at the Emirates Faldo course and we look forward to seeing you there.”
