Slide image across above – Often I get asked the question of what is the most important part of the game to practice. The general answer is certainly the short game but if I could pinpoint one part that will help all of your game, both short and long it would be to practice pitching. Pitching is not only one of the short shots but is also essentially a shortened version of your full swing, it will help with improving your touch and feel around the greens as well as your ball striking.

The key to great wedge play is being able to control your distances. Work on a swing that matches in length both in backswing and downswing. For example, a short swing should be back to waist height and through to waist height. The medium length swing should be back to the center of your chest and through to the center of the chest and the longest pitch shot should be played by swinging the club up to shoulder height and through to shoulder height. These 3 different lengths should give you three consistent distances to call upon when on the golf course. Work out your distances by using the above for all of the wedges in your set. If you have 3 wedges then you should have 9 different distances. By picking one of these distances your going to be able to call upon one of them once you know your yardage to the flag. Remember to setup correctly with a little more weight on your front foot and swing smoothly and confidently for a great strike
